Blessed

1 September 2005

As I absorb all of the stories created by Katrina, I’m certainly happy that my family was far enough north so as not to get the full effect of the hurricane. I’m very sorry others weren’t as fortunate.

We live in Flowood, Mississippi, right outside of Jackson. Lots of wind, rain, and no power for a couple of days were all the trouble we experienced. Others in our neighborhood and the surrounding areas got off just as easily, but some are now dealing with damaged property, fallen trees, and the prospect of no power for days—and it is extremely hot this time of year.

Worse yet are those that have no idea what happened to loved ones, or perhaps they do know…and it’s not good. The thought of someone from my family being lost in the wake is horrifying—and with an eleven-month-old daughter the thought becomes unbearable.

Sitting here at my laptop in my air-conditioned home I realize how blessed my family is. I don’t know what we did to deserve it, but I’m thankful. I’m very, very thankful.

I know it sounds thoughtless and generic, but truly, our prayers go out to all those in need—I hope you’re soon feeling as blessed as I feel.
