Logo woes
15 May 2007
I’m almost ashamed of myself. The good people at Typophile graciously offered their advice while I toiled over my new logo for Addison Hall Design. The new logo was well accepted and I’m quite proud of it, but alas, it fell short of my needs and I never saw it coming. Take a look.

The whole point of revisiting my logo was to create something that reproduced well on screen and made my very small identity program much simpler. The new mark did not work well on screen and attempts to remedy the problem and save all of my hard work quickly spun out of control. Therefore, I ditched the whole thing. (I’m actually tearing up right now.) It was hard, but it had to be done.
The logo I settled on was born from the typeface I chose — Priva Pro. Priva works well under low resolution printing conditions (like inkjet printing) and it performs well on screen as well. Hey, if Pentagram and MetaDesign can get away with only a wordmark, so can I. Below is the logotype what I ended up with.

It’s simple, it reproduces well, and it makes my life easier overall. My deepest apologies to the good people at Typophile — they are, as always, an invaluable resource. I’d like to think that this whole experience has led me to a logo that will live a long, happy life. Especially since having to do this again any time soon will drive me out of my mind.
